CMAK Sandy Hook Memorial Foundation

USA Triathlon and the USA Triathlon Foundation today announced a formal partnership with the CMAK (Chase Michael-Anthony Kowalski) Sandy Hook Memorial Foundation, founded in remembrance of Chase Kowalski.

The CMAK (Chase Michael Anthony Kowalski) Sandy Hook Memorial Foundation is a 501(c)(3) charity formed by the family of Chase Kowalski to honor his memory. In remembrance of Chase Kowalski, the students and educators of the Sandy Hook tragedy, CMAK inspires community healing through family and children-focused initiatives and programs. By focusing on emotional healing and physical health and wellness, they positively change the lives of children and their families.

How the USA Triathlon Foundation supported CMAK

The Race4Chase Kid’s Triathlon program is a youth triathlon program aimed to provide kids aged 6 to 12 with a safe, healthy non-competitive environment to discover the sport of triathlon. It brings together kids from all different backgrounds and educates them on how to adopt a healthy lifestyle, coaches them to develop a foundation of athletic skills, and inspires them to aim high in sports and in life. Designed as a six week goal oriented summer program, the program provides kids with expert instruction in swimming, cycling, running, strength training and flexibility, and also teaches them the fundamentals of good nutrition, under the supportive guidance of coaches, lifeguards and instructors.

The USA Triathlon Foundation grant and support was an important contribution to the success of the Race4Chase Kids Triathlon Program. The grant itself provided funds to offset some the cost of the coach’s salaries for the six week program. In addition to the funding, the association with USAT contributes to the identification of the programs as legitimate avenues for youth to be exposed to the sport of triathlon. In this way, it provides the climate which gives our participants, volunteers, and supporters the confidence to know that programs will maintain a high standard.

We wanted to personally thank you for the experience our three children had this summer.  It has been AMAZING! My 9 year old (Zachary) has more of an “I can” attitude after six weeks; my 8 year old (Jacob) perfected his freestyle stroke and can ride uphill while standing; my 6 year old (Isabella) can finally ride a bike and has become a fish in water!  We can’t wait to go for family bike rides now thanks to Race4Chase.  We are grateful to have had the opportunity for our children to transform physically and emotionally. We know they were trained well and can’t wait for race day!  All that said, Chase lives on in the competitive spirit of all the athletes. Thank you for turning tragedy into triumph and giving back to us all. (I am a 1st grade teacher and I would do anything for my students).  Chase is in heaven and will be cheering us on on race!
