2021 COVID-19 Relief Fund Grant Program- Round II

The Professional Triathletes Organisation – in partnership with the USA Triathlon Foundation is proud to be able to offer support and is offering grants to help those impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020, the USA Triathlon Foundation provided over $125,000 in grant funding through 42 grants to support the multisport community. This second round of funding is available in part through the generosity of Professional Triathletes from across the globe and through the Professional Triathletes Organisation. Without their support these grants would not be possible. To apply for the 2021 grant program, please review the terms below and apply at the bottom of the page.

General Information:

The USA Triathlon Foundation COVID-19 Relief Fund will provide grant funding opportunities to support members of the multisport community adversely affected by the COVID-19 crisis. This fund and its objective provide important support to the overall mission of the Foundation, specifically to transform lives through sport by providing opportunities to swim, bike and run for all.
Individuals, organizations and clubs may apply for consideration in receiving funding through this program. The Foundation will accept grant applications for up to $5,000. The USA Triathlon Foundation may be unable to honor every eligible request for assistance. 

Recommended Use of Funds:

  • Applicants are encouraged to apply for funding to help support and further the mission of the USA Triathlon Foundation.
  • Funds can be used towards the production of programs that have been rescheduled to a future date due to COVID-19 cancellations or postponements.
  • Funds can be used to create new programs that will encourage participation in multisport activities.


  • Race Directors must be USA Triathlon Certified Race Directors in good standing.
  • Coaches must be USA Triathlon Certified Coaches in good standing.
  • Clubs must be USA Triathlon Certified Clubs in good standing.
  • Organizations - (both nonprofit and for-profit) must have either a Certified Race Director or Certified Coach as part of their organization.
  • Applicants must use funding in a manner that will be viable for the date requested.
  • Applicants must use funds to help support the growth of multisport and NOT to recoup normal day-to-day operating expenses (including but not limited to rent, salaries, insurance, payment for goods and services from a non-related event).

Grant Terms & Timeline:

  • The grant application window will be open from Tuesday March 2nd, 2021 through Monday March 15th, 2021. Only applications received during this window will be eligible for consideration.
  • Annoucement of grant awards will be made on Tuesday March 30th, 2021. Payment for grant awards will be made during the week of March 29th provided that all supporting documentation has been provided to and received by the Foundation. 
  • Grants to organizations/individuals from the USA Triathlon Foundation are made solely for the purpose(s) described within the application and funds must be used for stated purposes.
  • Funds shall only be donated to the named organization/individual and no assignment or transfer will be recognized.
  • Beneficiary must repay any portion of the grant that is not used for stated purposes.
  • Beneficiary must: (1) Maintain program and financial records adequate to verify expenditure and activity related to the program (2) Provide acknowledgement of the gift to the USA Triathlon Foundation (3) Provide a grant recap report to the USA Triathlon Foundation by 12/31/2021 (4) Ensure that the program administrator or individual completes SafeSport training prior to the receipt of the funds
  • Grants will be reviewed and approved or denied by the USA Triathlon Foundation Grant Committee.
  • The grant committee has sole discretion on approval or denial of the grants.
  • All applicants will be informed of grant approval or denial. Approved grant requests will receive a Grant Agreement Form that must be completed and received by the foundation before funds are released.

Additional Information to Consider:

  • Clubs requesting grants must be USA Triathlon Certified Clubs in good standing.
  • Race Directors must be USA Triathlon Certified Race Directors in good standing.
  • Coaches must be USA Triathlon Certified Coaches in good standing.
  • Individuals must be current USA Triathlon members.
  • Only organizations and individuals within the United States are eligible to apply.
