COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – As the USA Triathlon Foundation continues to grow and directly impact the sport of triathlon and its triathlon communities, the Board of Trustees recently created a new opportunity for past board members to stay involved with the Board as a Legacy Member. This membership acknowledges extraordinary service during their tenure.

Those who receive this invitation-only opportunity have been instrumental in growing the Foundation, as well as establishing the USA Triathlon Foundation, which was founded in 2014 as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and charitable arm of USA Triathlon.
“We’re incredibly grateful for the support from our 10 inaugural Legacy Members,” said Dr. Gabe Cagwin, president and chief advancement officer of the USA Triathlon Foundation. “They’ve helped make it possible for the Foundation to transform lives through sport by providing opportunities for all to swim, bike and run.”

Our inaugural Legacy Member class includes:

  • Bob Babbitt
  • David Silver
  • Dick Lansing
  • Tracy DiSabato-Aust
  • Jim Aust
  • David Lang
  • Paul Craig
  • Scott Brown
  • Annette Kaptur
  • Kevin Haas

“We’re delighted to extend this honor for outstanding service to the Board,” said Stephen Ban, chair of the USA Triathlon Foundation Board of Trustees. “Through this special membership, our Legacy Members will continue to make an impact on the sport they love.”

Legacy Members are invited to continue their participation in the Foundation’s governance at a non-voting level. They will participate in activities, committees and meetings at a level that is comfortable for them.

Each year, the Board of Trustees may nominate and vote on potential additional Legacy members.

The USA Triathlon Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and the charitable arm of USA Triathlon. With its mission to transform lives through sport by providing opportunities to swim, bike and run, the Foundation serves to generate a greater impact on the multisport community through charitable giveback and grants that advance the Foundation’s three pillars: (1) Encourage youth participation; (2) Inspire adaptive athletes; and (3) Ignite Olympic/Paralympic dreams. Since the Foundation was established in 2014, it has provided millions of dollars in grants to organizations and individuals in pursuit of its mission and pillars to create a healthier United States through triathlon.
